The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwto.org\/sustainable-development\">UNWTO<\/a> describes sustainable tourism as tourism that &#8220;<em>takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impact, addressing the needs of visitors, industry, environment and host communities<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.booking.com\/where-sustainable-travel-is-headed-in-2018\/\">Booking.com<\/a> researched sustainable tourism, with some interesting results. Here we compiled and organized them, along with some visual help of graphics. Here are the answers the surveyed gave Booking.com:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>42%<\/strong> said they can\u2019t afford the extra costs<\/li>\n<li><strong>32%<\/strong> said just the lack of information and knowledge is what stops them to travel more sustainably<\/li>\n<li><strong>22%<\/strong> saw as an obstacle how time-consuming would be to travel sustainably<\/li>\n<li><strong>22%<\/strong> thought there would be a lack of sustainable travel destinations, therefore not that many destinations to choose from<\/li>\n<li><strong>20%<\/strong> thought that sustainable travel doesn\u2019t meet the standard of luxury they are used to<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33282\" sustainably<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Those more used to travel sustainably gave some recommendations on how to achieve that goal:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>53%<\/strong> recommended buying local<\/li>\n<li><strong>52%<\/strong> advocated for public transportation<\/li>\n<li><strong>41%<\/strong> recommended finding a local restaurant that only uses locally sourced products<\/li>\n<li><strong>40%<\/strong> suggested visiting less known sights<\/li>\n<li><strong>30%<\/strong> suggested choosing an eco-friendly certified accommodation over more traditional ones
