Winter destinations

The weather already started to feel more like winter and the holidays are approaching just around the corner. Instead of letting the nostalgic thoughts about summer wreck our mood, let us explore some cozy options for places to visit this Christmas period. Keep in mind that LuggageHero can make your stay much easier and more comfortable by keeping your luggage safe for an affordable price.

Vienna

Vienna, the capital of Austria, turns into a city full of a Christmas atmosphere every year. Christmas decorations are lit up in the streets, Christmas markets are open in the squares and Christmas carols are heard in all corners of Vienna.

Among the most famous and largest markets is the Rathausplatz market, which opens in mid-November. You can buy Christmas decorations, handicrafts, and tasty specialties of Austrian cuisine, or go ice skating and warm up with a hot punch. It’s a great opportunity to buy Christmas gifts and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere with family and friends at the same time. An entertaining program for children is carousels, a nativity scene, and a children’s workshop at the town hall.

Prague

Prague, the heart of Europe, is known for its historic part of the city, narrow streets and also the largest castle complex in the world – Prague Castle. Prague is visited by tourists all year round, mainly because of the monuments and history of the city.

In winter, however, it has a particularly pleasant and romantic atmosphere – snow-covered roofs of buildings, illuminated streets and the smell of mulled wine with a pinch of cinnamon. In the city center, you can visit the Christmas markets on the Old Town Square, go ice-skating or walk along the Charles Bridge and walk up to the mentioned Prague Castle.

It is also worth trying the typical Czech cuisine. You can enjoy their typical sirloin sauce, duck with dumpling and cabbage or goulash. Don’t forget to try the typical Czech beer Pilsner Urquell, for which the Czech Republic is most famous.

NYC

New York is the most visited city in the United States throughout the year. You can visit the city all year round, mainly because it always has something to offer. But if you’ve decided to go to NYC in the winter, get ready for a real load of magical vibes.

The best thing to do in winter in New York is to go see the famous Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center. Its lighting takes place on Thanksgiving at the end of November and it’s for Americans and a big deal. The lighting is televised nationally, so if you want to have a great experience, it’s a must-see place.

If you don’t mind a large crowd of people celebrating, head to Times Square on New Year’s Eve and celebrate it in great American style.

Another best thing to do? Visit Central Park! If you like ice skating, we recommend you to visit the popular Wollman Rink in the southern part of Central Park. Or if you just prefer to have a nice and calm day, have a walk in the park with hot chocolate in hand.

Edinburgh

Edinburg is one of the most popular cities in the UK, with plenty of reasons to visit in winter. In this guide the focus will be on the most interesting Christmas attractions.

When being there between November and January, you will be fascinated by the Edinburgh Christmas market, where you can buy seasonal items and presents, try food and drinks, or even do fun things such as trying rides with your child or more extreme ones.

The Princes Street Garden, lying in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle is a perfect place for a walk under the Christmas lights and tree. You will feel like you are in Wonderland, as you will be able to see the enormous panoramic Ferris wheel and ice skate in the temporary seasonal rink.

Miami

Another popular destination to visit during wintertime is Miami, as December-February is the high season. It is the perfect place for those of you who prefer a sunny escape rather than a cold and snowy winter holiday. During this time of the year, the weather is sunny with low humidity, little rain and temperatures around 24.5 C (75 F) perfect for enjoying your time on the beach with a cocktail in hand.

While the simplest thing you can do is to spend your holiday at the South beach, there are plenty of activities that you can join, such as festivals and events for kids and families, so you will never get bored. The city offers much more than beautiful beaches. You can explore it on a boat or helicopter, taste delicious food, and even go fishing. We would also recommend visiting the subtropical wild Everglades National Park with about 60 species, protected by federal law.

London

In case you are wondering when to visit London, we would suggest doing it in December, as it is a less crowded period. What is more, the hotel rates and airplane tickets are usually cheaper. The thing is that the weather will be colder and the days shorter, however the cozy atmosphere in the pubs, museums and theaters is guaranteed.

The Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is the biggest festival in the capital and you should include it in your wishing list to visit this winter season. It is possible to book your tickets in advance, which we advise you to do, as it might get really busy. There you can explore the Christmas market and warm up with mulled wine, skate at the ice rink or even watch circus performances.
