  • The largest business travel market is located in China, with a total of $346.5 billion in 2017.
  • India and Indonesia have the fastest growing business travel markets, with 11.3% and 8.7% respectively.
  • New York City is the most expensive city for business trips ($799 per day), followed by Geneva ($716 daily), Zurich ($661), Washington DC ($621 daily), and Paris ($617).
  • Hong Kong is the most expensive city in Asia for business trips, with a $515 per day cost.

  • Around 40% of business trips are extended for leisure purposes.
  • 43% of conferences or conventions business trips will turn into bleisure trips.
  • 84% of bleisure trips are less than three days in one city, while 20% of bleisure trips longer than three days take place in more than one city.
  • Why transform a business trip into a bleisure trip?
    • 66% bleisure travelers say that the reason is they like the destination they’re traveling too and want to explore it more in-depth.
    • 51% said they turn business trips into bleisure around the weekends.

Demographics – who is more likely to travel for business?

  • 77% of business travelers are men.
  • 55% of all business trips are taken by 30 – 49 years old.
  • 40% of Millennials will travel for business, and two-thirds of those young travelers see business trips as a status symbol.
